Privacy
The short version: no accounts, no tracking cookies, no advertising, and nothing you enter into a tool is stored.
What we collect
Browsing the site and using the tools collects nothing about you. We keep a daily count of how many times each tool produces a result: a single number per tool per day, not tied to you, to a session, to an IP address or to any identifier, and impossible to trace back to an individual visit.
The one exception is the contact form. If you choose to use it we hold what you wrote and the email address you gave, because we cannot reply otherwise. Nothing else on the site asks you for anything.
What we do not collect
- No accounts and no sign-ups. The only email address we ever hold is one you type into the contact form yourself, and only if you use it.
- No tracking cookies and no advertising pixels. The contact form sets one session cookie, described below.
- No advertising networks, no data brokers, no profile building. There is one third-party script, for page-view counts, described below.
- No storage of your tool answers. They travel in the URL so the page can render your result, and that is the end of them.
Your answers are in the URL
When you complete a tool, your answers appear in the address bar. That is deliberate: it means you can bookmark a result or send it to someone. It also means that if you share the link, you are sharing those answers, which are only ever things like "bass" and "spinning".
Server logs
Like any website, the server that hosts this site processes requests in order to respond to them. We do not build profiles from that and we do not sell anything to anyone.
Page-view counts
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages get read. It is a small script served by Cloudflare, and it is the only third-party code on the site.
Cloudflare states that it "does not use any client-side state, such as cookies or localStorage, to collect usage metrics" and does not "'fingerprint' individuals via their IP address, User Agent string, or any other data for the purpose of displaying analytics". So it sets nothing in your browser and does not follow you to other sites.
What it does mean is that your request for that script reaches Cloudflare's servers, the same way a request for any hosted file would, and what Cloudflare does with that is governed by their policy rather than ours. If you block third-party scripts, every tool and page on this site still works exactly as it does otherwise — nothing here depends on it.
The contact form
If you send a message through the contact form, we store what you wrote along with your email address, and email both to the person who maintains the fishing data. The address is required because a correction we cannot ask a follow-up question about is usually a correction we cannot act on. It is used to reply to you and for nothing else: no list, no newsletter, no sharing with anyone.
Opening the contact form sets one short-lived session cookie. It carries a random token that lets us confirm the form was submitted from this site rather than from somewhere else. It is not a tracking cookie, it holds nothing about you, and no other page on the site sets one.
Theme preference
If you switch the site between light and dark, that single choice is stored in your browser's local storage so the page does not flash the wrong theme next time. It never leaves your device and it is not a tracking cookie. If you never touch the toggle, nothing is stored and we follow your system setting.
